I also didn't cry about Optimus or any of the OG Autobots dying in the Transformers movie but I was a bit shocked at how brutality some of the anonymous robots were killed. Like when those Robot judges were feeding robot defendants to robot piranhas. Or when inside of Unicron random anonymous robots were being dropped screaming into lava. Those scenes were more unsettling to my innocent young mind than Primes death but yeah, that movie was awesome.
I cried when prime died but more because they set us up to cry. I didn't actually believe he was gone for a variety of reasons. I realized it was a tragic story beat but I didn't think much beyond that. I was actually more worried about the whole planet unicron ate. And I wondered who the hell the judge dudes were. I really wanted a toy of them.
Later on when I got an ultra Magnus at a garage sale I thought it was ghost prime XD
It's crazy how far off the path you can get when you're the only kid around and school comprehensively shuns you.
To me transformers were all just friendly AI. I never really accepted the energy woo elements. I completely didn't get the matrix Unicron interaction.
